The Top 4 Succulents You Need For Your Home
Succulents seem to be all the bloody craze these days, and why shouldn't they be? They're absolutely gorgeous, low maintenance, cheap, and come in so much variety. In fact, the variety is ridiculous! So it's been narrowed down to the top 4 succulents you need in your home!
Number 4: Burro's Tail (Sedum Morganianum)
The Burro's tail comes in at number four, this beautiful succulent can actually grow to be quite a large plant with it's overlapping leaves growing up to nearly a meter long! These succulents are native to Mexico, they grow and look most optimal hanging from a basket so the long leaves can just hang down. If it wasn't already obvious, this succulent got it's name from the leaves looking somewhat like a donkey's tail.
Growing tip: Ensure soil is completely dry between watering, and keep soil quite dry in general throughout winter.
Number 3: Medicine Plant (Aloe Vera)
The Medicine Plant, or better known as Aloe Vera, is placed third not only for its vibrant color and unique shape, but the medicinal purposes of the sap within. The healing sap can be used to treat sunburns, rashes and various other skin conditions.
Growing tip: Keep the plant in direct sunlight, or a spot in the house with the most sunlight.
Number 2: Pincushion Cactus (Mammillaria)
The Pincushion Cactus will take second on our list purely because of their unique beauty, iconic shape and awesome variety. Our number 2 favorite succulent makes a group of roughly 200 species, which are ball-shaped cacti and tends to be the most common cactus found in homes. Note of caution: They are spiky! So put them somewhere you are not likely to make accidental contact with them.
Growing tip: Watering should be minimal, particularly in winter. Fertilize about three times in Summer.
Number 1: Panda Plant (Kalanchoe tomentosa)
The Panda Plant is our favorite succulent that we think everyone should have in their home! There are various types of Kalanchoe plants, but the Panda Plant is by far the most common. They are native to Madagascar and are grown mainly for their foliage. They have made number 1 on this list because of their amazing green leaves with thick grey hair on them, which gives them this awesome fuzzy look. The tips of the leaves are covered with rust colored hairs to really make them stand out! Panda Plants are just truly an amazing looking succulent.
Growing tip: Grow in medium to light filtered light, allow the top 5 centimeters of soil to dry out between watering.
